A Hilton Head Island man was charged with driving under the influence Friday after he was stopped while driving his pickup truck, which was missing a front tire, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The 42-year-old man was stopped at the Moss Creek security gate around 2:45 a.m. The front driver side rim on his Nissan pickup truck was missing a tire and had started to grind down and melt in areas, the report said. The man's shirt and pants had vomit on them, and the truck smelled of alcohol.
He refused to complete a sobriety test or submit to a blood-alcohol test, so he was charged with driving under the influence and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, the report said.
