Bluffton shooting incident involves victims from Hardeeville, Beaufort

A woman walking with a friend to a nightclub early Sunday near Simmonsville Road and New Mustang Drive was shot in the thigh, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

Officers were called to Hilton Head Hospital at about 5 a.m. to talk with the victims, who said they were walking when they heard several gunshots. As they began to run, the female victim, Shanigue Lawrence of Hardeeville, was shot in the leg, she told investigators. She was accompanied by Tyrique Scott of Beaufort, who suffered abrasions but was not shot, according to a Bluffton police news release.

Both victims said they were at a local nightclub beforehand, then attended a party along Buck Island Road. They told investigators they were returning to the nightclub when the incident took place.

The victims were dropped off at the hospital by private vehicle, the release said. Lawrence was treated, then taken to Savannah Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Scott would not tell investigators how he received the bruises and abrasions. Neither victim could provide a description of any suspects, according to the release.

Bluffton officers continue to investigate.

Earlier Sunday, at about 3:45 a.m., officers received a report of shots fired in the area of Simmonsville Road, but they checked the surrounding area and found no victims, witnesses or evidence of a shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Detective Mayers at 843-706-4554.
