One person was airlifted to a hospital Thursday evening after leaving a car on the Cross Island Parkway on Hilton Head Island and being struck by another vehicle, according to fire officials.
The victim was hit about 8:43 p.m., in a westbound lane of the parkway just east of Marshland Road, said Joheida Fister, spokeswoman for the Hilton Head Fire & Rescue Division. The patient was airlifted by helicopter just after 9:10 p.m., she said.
Reached late Thursday, a spokesman for the S.C. Highway Patrol said troopers are investigating the wreck. Cpl. Sonny Collins said he did not have additional information.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said the wreck closed one westbound lane of the Cross Island Parkway and declined to answer additional questions.
