A Bluffton woman and Hilton Head Island man were charged with drug possession Friday after their car was stopped on U.S. 278, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.
Deputies pulled Silvana Ascencion, 19, over near the Village at Wexford on Hilton Head Island about 9:15 a.m. after observing her red Kia Sedona speeding more than 15 miles over the speed limit, the report said.
Deputies found multiple air fresheners and cigar wrappers throughout the car, apparently to cover the smell of marijuana, according to the report.
Deputies ran checks on Ascension and her two passengers -- 20-year-old David Barrientos Bruno and a juvenile -- and learned Bruno was a member of a street gang, the report said.

With permission from Ascencion, officers searched the vehicle and found about 34 grams of marijuana and more than $3,300 in cash in the car and in Ascencion and Bruno's wallets, the report said.
Bruno told deputies the drugs belonged to him, but both he and Ascencion were arrested and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to the report.
Both were released, Ascencion on her own recognizance, and Bruno on a $10,000 bond, according to the jail log.
The juvenile was petitioned to family court and released to an adult Friday.
