Georgia man suffers fractured skull outside Hilton Head bar

A 22-year-old Georgia man suffered a fractured skull after he was thrown into a concrete flower pot outside a Hilton Head Island bar early Sunday, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The man suffered the injury after being kicked out of a bar at Reilley's Plaza on Greenwood Drive on Hilton Head around 2 a.m., the report stated.

He tried to return, but a bouncer grabbed the man by the neck and pushed him away. When the man tried a second time, the bouncer grabbed him under his arms and threw him away from the bar.

The man hit a gravel patch and fell backward, striking the concrete flower pot. Deputies working crowd control at the bar complex were called over and found the man unconscious and bleeding from his head. He was taken to Hilton Head Hospital and later taken to Charleston for further treatment, the report said.

The bouncer, who was taken inside One Hot Mama's by another bouncer after the incident, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and battery. At the hospital, the injured man told deputies he didn't want to press charges, but the charges were not dropped because the man was intoxicated and suffering from the head wound.

The bouncer was released from the Beaufort County Detention Center later Sunday after posting $10,000 bond, according to the jail log.
