A man who lead police on a chase in Bluffton hit two vehicles, one of them a squad car, before being arrested Thursday on drug charges, according to a Bluffton Police Department news release.

Officers were patrolling Old Town at 7:25 p.m. when they saw the driver of a gray Chevrolet Malibu with illegally tinted windows fail to use a turn signal, the release said. Police tried to stop the car at Dubois Lane, but the driver eluded them and led officers down May River Road until he crashed into another vehicle at the Buck Island Road intersection, according to the release.

The driver, identified as Sherrod Green, 25, of Bluffton, jumped from the car and ran, leaving the key in the ignition and the vehicle in reverse, the release said. The car rolled back and struck a police cruiser, causing minor damage, according to Maj. Joseph Manning. No one was injured, he said.

Officers caught Green in the 100 block of Buck Island Road. A search revealed he was carrying about 47 grams of what appeared to be marijuana and two grams of MDMA, also called ecstasy.

Green was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana and MDMA, according to court records. He was also charged with intent to distribute those substances within a half-mile of a school.

Green remained at the Beaufort County Detention Center Friday with bond set at $90,445.

The S.C. Highway Patrol investigated both wrecks related to the incident.
