Investigators are continuing work to determine the cause of a fire that severely damaged a Hilton Head Island home Tuesday afternoon, according to Fire Marshal Joheida Fister.
Investigators are taking sketches of the scene at 2 Planters Row and interviewing several people, including the driver who first noticed flames coming from the two-story home about 2:10 p.m. and the company that recently installed a new heating and air conditioning unit, Fister said.
The unit was located in the attic, where the fire appears to have started, Fister said.
"Knowing work had recently been done on (the unit), we want to be able to talk to them to see what was done so we can either rule it out or rule it in," Fister said.

No one was injured in the incident.
The Port Royal Plantation house was vacant Tuesday, as homeowner Joe Salemi lives in Ohio. He planned to sell the Planters Row property, a real estate agent said.
It was not clear whether an insurance agency will rule the home a total loss, Fister said, though the roof was destroyed and water caused major damage throughout the house.
