Beaufort men charged with marijuana offense after traffic stop

Two Beaufort residents were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana after a canine unit found more than 300 grams of pot hidden in the car during a traffic stop, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Robert Warner Sandle, 29, and Akeem Saunders, 28, were arrested June 21 after deputies stopped the car they were in for failing to use a turn signal while turning onto Boundary Street in Beaufort. While the car was stopping, deputies saw Sandle, the driver, reach into back seat, according to the report.

As they approached the car, deputies noted that Sandle and Saunders seemed nervous, and a canine unit was called in to check the vehicle, the report said. A search turned up two bags under the passenger seat containing 313 grams of marijuana, the report said.

Both Sandle and Saunders were arrested and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center. Both posted bond and were released the same day.
