A Beaufort woman hired as a home health care assistant was arrested for stealing from two elderly patients Friday after the victims' families reported suspicious transactions on credit cards and checks, according to the Beaufort Police Department.
Tonia Gonsalves, 30, was charged with two counts of exploitation of a vulnerable adult, two counts of forgery and one count of financial transaction card theft.
She is being held for prosecution, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log.
According to records from the 14th Judicial Circuit, Gonsalves was out of jail on bond at the time of her arrest on charges of exploitation of a vulnerable adult and obtaining drugs by fraud from November.

Gonsalves turned herself in, according to Beaufort police.
Gonsalves' case makes the third time in March that home caregivers were charged with stealing from their elderly patients.
