Hilton Head North Forest Beach shooting victims identified

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office has released the names of the victims of a deadly shooting that occurred on Hilton Head Island Thursday night, WTOC reported.

David Duffey, 62, of Hilton Head Island and Catherine Warrington, 50, of Bluffton were shot at a rental home in North Forest Beach and died on the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m.

The suspect, Dustin Linsley, 52, died at approximately 4:40 a.m. the following day from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home at 36 Promenade Street.

Linsley had driven away from the scene of the crime by the time deputies arrived. Deputies used the county’s automatic license plate reading cameras to identify his vehicle and track him down at his home on Promenade Street.

Deputies established a perimeter around the home, which was occupied by the suspect and a 56-year-old female, the sheriff’s office said. After several hours of negotiations, the woman exited the house unharmed — but deputies entered to find the male suspect dead from “what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to the sheriff’s office alert sent Friday morning.
