The suspect in a deadly hit-and-run incident on Nov. 21 in Bluffton likely was driving a dark-colored, late-model Chrysler Town and Country or Dodge Grand Caravan, according to an S.C. Highway Patrol news release.
Initial reports from the agency said the suspect’s vehicle was a 2005 or 2006 black Acura TL.
The van sought by Highway Patrol investigators is “believed to have damage on the passenger-side front bumper and headlight area and is missing the side mirror,” the release said.
The hit-and-run killed Kevin Thomson, 60, who was riding his bicycle on the morning of Nov. 21 along a stretch of U.S. 278 near Burnt Church Road.
Thomson was found lying in a ditch on the westbound side of the highway in the area of Burnt Church Road around 8:45 a.m., Capt. Bob Bromage, of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, said the day after the incident.
The driver involved left the area after the collision, he said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
