A $10 million contract has been awarded to upgrade airfield security at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in preparation for the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter jet.
HITT Contracting Inc. of North Charleston won the contract Monday, according to a news release from Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast.
"The P-472 Airfield Security Upgrades are another key component in preparing MCAS Beaufort for transition to the F-35 Lightning II," said Col. Brian C. Murtha, air station commanding officer.
The work includes security fences and gates, turnstiles, communications lines, relocation of Drayton Street, parking spaces, and rerouting of Moore Street.
