Military honors

  • Army National Guard Pvt. Jason M. Tuten and Army Pvt. Jawan M. Johnson have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia.
  • During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, and physical fitness. They received instruction in and practiced basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field-training exercises.

    Tuten is the son of Catherine Tuten of Estill and the stepson of Debbie Dyer of Brunson. He also is the brother of Kathy Woods of Springfield, Ga. He is a 2008 graduate of Beaufort High School.

    Johnson is the daughter of Teresa and Clifton Johnson of Seabrook. She is a 2010 graduate of Battery Creek High School.
