Army Master Sgt. Luther Smalls graduated from the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. The nine-month course is considered the capstone of noncommissioned officer training, preparing new and prospective sergeants major for duties as senior noncommissioned officers in positions throughout the Department of Defense and allied nation forces. Smalls is an air defense artillery senior sergeant and has served in the military for 24 years. He is the son of Essie Smalls of Beaufort and a 1985 Beaufort High School graduate.
Army National Guard Pvt. Janet Prioleau has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values; physical fitness; and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills; military weapons; chemical warfare and bayonet training; drill and ceremony; marching; rifle marksmanship; armed and unarmed combat; map reading; field tactics; military courtesy; the military justice system; basic first aid; foot marches; and field training exercises. She is the daughter of Nellie Prioleau of Bluffton and a 2006 Bluffton High School graduate.
