Military honors for Nov. 11

  • Air Force Airman Marcus Burke graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
  • The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    He is the son of Alisa Jackson of Tillman and a 2009 graduate of Hilton Head Island High School.

  • Matthew Bruno has been promoted to the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force. Bruno is a director of operations assigned to the Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. He has served in the military for 10 years. His wife, Air Force Capt. Sarah Bruno, is the daughter of Donna and Bill McCoy of Beaufort.
  • Air Force Airman 1st Class Jasmine Griffin graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

    He is the son of Ki Coleman of Bluffton.

  • Army Reserve Pfc. Andrew Di Russo graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia.
  • During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values; physical fitness; and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills; military weapons; chemical warfare and bayonet training; drill and ceremony; marching; rifle marksmanship; armed and unarmed combat; map reading; field tactics; military courtesy; military justice system; basic first aid; foot marches; and field training exercises.

    He is the son of Kathi Gibb and Vincent Di Russo, both of Bluffton.

    He is a 2004 graduate of Hilton Head Island High School.

  • Army Pvt. Kristie Chisolm graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
  • During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values; and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies; military courtesy; military justice; physical fitness; first aid; rifle marksmanship; weapons use; map reading and land navigation; foot marches; armed and unarmed combat; and field maneuvers and tactics.

    She is a 2007 graduate of Beaufort High School.
