A 29-year-old Burton woman was charged with arson Saturday after she allegedly set fire to the home where her husband was staying, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Marta O'Conner Suarez-Mason was arrested just after 1 a.m., after she tried to leave the area of the burning house, which the Burton Fire District responded to and extinguished, Capt. Bob Bromage said.
That house sustained only minor garage damage, Bromage said.
Earlier in the evening, at about 10:40 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to the couple's home off Pinegrove Road for a domestic dispute. Both the husband and wife claimed the other had caused damage to one of their cars, and the husband then agreed to spend the night at another house.
Suarez-Mason is accused of following the victim there and then starting a fire.
She was charged Saturday with third-degree domestic violence and third-degree arson.
Her bond is set at $20,242.50.
