A 36-year-old Beaufort man was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and other charges early Saturday morning, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Jamal Jefferson was traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph zone on Lady's Island Drive and attempted to evade Sheriff's Office deputies who tried to conduct a traffic stop. Jefferson continued to drive to Port Royal and fled on foot near the entrance to Cottages at Beaufort, where he was pursued, caught and arrested.
Jefferson was charged with failure to stop for a blue light, resisting arrest, possession of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of an open container, driving under suspension and leaving the scene of a traffic accident with property damage.
