An 80-year-old Burton woman was bitten by a dog as she biked in the Grays Hill area on Christmas morning, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

She was riding on Joe Allen Drive near Patterson Road when a neighbor's Boston terrier began to chase her, the report said. The woman tried to pedal faster, but the dog bit her leg just above the ankle, according to the report.

She was able to return home when the dog ran after a passing car. She told deputies it was not the first time she'd been chased by the terrier.

The owner, an 82-year-old man, said his dog ran outside when he opened the door to get his newspaper and did not return when he called it, the report said. The man admitted he'd seen his dog chase people before and was cited for having an animal at large.
