The recreational season for red snapper will open for three weekends in July, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.
The first two weekends, July 11 to 13 and July 18 to 20, allow the harvest of fish Friday through Sunday, but on the last weekend, July 25 to 26, harvest is limited to Friday and Saturday. The bag limit is one fish per person per day, and there is no minimum size.
DNR is asking anglers to donate carcasses of red snapper they catch for data collection. The carcasses can be dropped off at the Boathouse Restaurant, 397 Squire Pope Road, Hilton Head Island.
A freezer with the DNR logo has been placed at the location and can be accessed 24 hours a day. Anglers are also asked to fill out an online survey (click or tap here to participate).
