One person was killed in a car accident on U.S. 17 in Jasper County on Monday afternoon, according to a news release from the S.C. Highway Patrol.
A passenger in a Toyota heading south on U.S. 17 was killed when the driver attempted to make a left turn at 1:55 p.m. onto S.C. 315.
The driver, Reginald James, 37, failed to yield the right of way to a tractor-trailer heading north on U.S. 17, and the car was struck on the passenger side, according to the release. No further details about the driver were released.
The name of the passenger who died was not released Monday night.

James taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where he was treated and released hospital spokesman Michael Nortica said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
An investigation into the crash continues, the release said.
