Hilton Head's Dixie Majors team stays unbeaten at state tournament in Lancaster

Hilton Head's Dixie Majors team won its third game of the state tournament in Lancaster and is the only remaining unbeaten team after its 15-12 win over Irmo on Monday.

Aaron Facenda picked up the win with two scoreless innings, Lincoln Fuller came in as mid-reliever and Randy Young picked up the save.

Hilton Head jumped out to a 3-0 start in the first frame and never relinquished the lead. Dylan Powell was 3 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs, a walk and four runs scored, Michael Grant was 3 for 3 with an RBI, a walk and two runs scored, Taylor Place was 3 for 5 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored and John David Reichel was 4 for 5 with two runs scored.

Hilton Head plays York Tuesday night. A win would put Hilton Head in the championship round on Wednesday.

Over the weekend, Hilton Head earned a 16-0, five-inning win over Buford that took two days, thanks a suspension because of rain. Every Hilton Head player had a hit, including Powell, who was 3 for 4 with a homer. Carlos Pecero earned the win on the mound.

Hilton Head started its second game at 11:55 p.m. Sunday and completed its 5-2 win over Greer at 2:25 Monday morning. Chase Clayton pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing just four hits, 2 walks and one run while striking out nine for the win. Powell got the save, and Place threw out three runners attempting steals. Young earned the save.


Hilton Head fell to Hartsville, 3-2, on Sunday and was eliminated in the Dixie Youth Baseball "O" Zone state tournament at Greenwood Park in Florence.
