Authorities: Relatively tame July 4 across Beaufort County

The July 4 holiday was a relatively tame one, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Robin McIntosh said deputies charged three people with driving under the influence and five with disorderly conduct Thursday on Hilton Head Island.

"There were no major incidents last night," she said Friday. "We had the usual noise complaints that usually accompany a holiday such as this."

A Beaufort man reported shots fired near Windsor Road. Deputies found no evidence of gunplay, but did note hearing fireworks in the area.

Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said his department found no major fireworks violations.

The Port Royal Police Department reported one violation in which people were stopped from shooting fireworks in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
