Authorities are investigating the burglary and theft of more than 100 pounds of meat from Harold's Diner on Hilton Head Island.
More than $413 worth of ground beef, bacon and steaks were stolen from the rear of the restaurant as its employees served customers Thursday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Owner Chuck Hyatt said he realized the extent of the meat heist at about 1 p.m.
"I've probably been broken into three times, but this is the first time that someone has had the (courage) to come in the back door when we're actually open," said Hyatt.
He said he may purchase a security system because of the theft.
