Two St. Helena Island men and a Hilton Head Island woman face drug charges after separate Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigations turned up cocaine, marijuana and other illegal substances.
ON ST. HELENA
Melvin S. Holmes Jr., 28, and his brother were arrested Friday after an undercover drug team allegedly purchased drugs from both brothers.
A search of their home on Seaside Road netted 60 grams of crack cocaine, 15 grams of powdered cocaine and 1 gram of marijuana, the Sheriff's Office said. Officers also said they found a .40-caliber handgun reported stolen from Burton and $1,925 cash.

Two other adults, who were not charged, and a small child were in the home at the time, according to the Sheriff's Office. The child was in the custody of his mother and did not appear to be endangered, drug task force supervisor Lt. J. Woodward said.
Crack and powder cocaine and the handgun were found on Melvin Holmes, Woodward said. He was charged with trafficking crack and powdered cocaine, possession of a stolen handgun and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime -- all felonies. Additional charges could be filed, Woodward said.
His brother was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
The brothers were being held for prosecution Friday at the Beaufort County Detention Center. Melvin Holmes' bail was set at $151,062. His brother was also in the detention center, with bail set at $882. His charges included a prior bench warrant.
ON HILTON HEAD
Diane T. Cromwell, 34, was arrested Wednesday at her Hilton Head Gardens apartment after being found in possession of 15 methadone pills, five oxycodone pills and less than a gram each of crack cocaine and marijuana, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Investigators searched Cromwell's apartment after learning in December it was being used to sell and distribute illegal drugs, Woodward said.
Cromwell was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute methadone -- a narcotic pain reliever also used to treat drug addiction -- and possession of oxycodone, also a narcotic pain reliever. All of the charges are felonies. Cromwell also was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
She was being held Friday afternoon at the detention center, with bail set at $20,620.
