Mobile homeless shelter vandalized at church

A trailer belonging to Family Promise of Beaufort County was damaged when vandals broke the door during an attempted robbery, the nonprofit organization reported Thursday.

Family Promise, which provides shelter to homeless children and their families, uses the trailer to move families' belongings to churches each Sunday. Executive director Elliott Brown said the damage could have occurred between Nov. 25 and Dec. 3.

"I imagine the perpetrators were disappointed upon discovering the only items on the trailer at the time were portable beds that are falling apart and desperately need replacing," Brown said in a news release.

Three years ago, the trailer was stolen when it was parked at a church in Bluffton.
