The Hilton Head Island Town Council voted Tuesday to buy property along William Hilton Parkway near Folly Field Road for $200,000 to clean up the site and prevent development at a busy intersection.
The former RBC Real Estate office on the .364-acre site will be demolished and the lot cleared, according to a town news release.
"This represents part of the evolution of our land buying program: acquiring an outdated property and cleaning up and improving the safety of a busy intersection," Mayor Drew Laughlin said in the release.
The town bought the property from Greenburg King Associates LLC. The current zoning would have allowed 2,911 square feet of commercial development, the release said.
