Four young vandals who ran when approached by a Sea Pines security guard caused thousands of dollars in damage by spray-painting signs, roads and leisure trails near the Marriott Monarch in Sea Pines.
A guard said he heard the sound of a spray-paint can early Sunday while on patrol near the entrance to the hotel parking lot, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report. He saw three teenage boys and a girl, all white, run to a black SUV that sped off before he could read the license plate number, the report said.
In their wake, profane graffiti and "HHCA" was found spray-painted at the Monarch on stop signs, kiosks, the hotel's wooden sign and a leisure trail. About 10 more traffic and directional signs in Sea Pines had also been painted the same color scheme of green, white and gold.
The total damage is estimated at $3,400, the report said.
