A possum out during daylight hours and believed to be rabid was euthanized by a Beaufort County Sheriff's deputy Saturday evening in Burton.
A man living on Cypress Street reported the possum was acting strangely, had difficulty moving and was showing no fear of a humans. A deputy arrived at about 7 p.m. and, after consulting with a supervisor, shot and killed it.
The possum was "properly disposed of," according to the Sheriff's Office.
