Two Florida men are in custody after allegedly robbing another man and threatening him with assault at about 9 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Hilton Head Suites on Marina Side Drive, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The victim, a 40-year-old man, said that Paul Robinson and Roy Henry, both of Miami, pulled up in a gray Mazda and approached him in the motel parking lot, demanding payment on a debt that the victim told deputies had already been paid. The victim and a witness told deputies the two men threatened him with assault if he didn't pay, while Henry reached into his waistband as if he had a weapon, according to an incident report.
Robinson and Henry allegedly grabbed the man's laptop-computer bag, which contained a computer and $350 Ruger handgun, the report said. The man ran and then called deputies, while the witness also called 911.
While a deputy was taking their statements, a second deputy located the vehicle Robinson and Henry were in on U.S. 278 at about 9:15 p.m. Robinson told deputies the man was an old family friend who owed him about $3,700. He said he and Henry had taken the laptop bag containing the gun from the victim because it looked as if he were going to grab it, the report said. The report also said that Robinson would return the bag and weapon once the debt was paid.
