A Ford and Lincoln dealer from Florence plans to open a new Chevrolet dealership in Hardeeville.
Mike Reichenbach said he closed last week on the property along U.S. 278, next to O.C. Welch Ford Lincoln.
Welch confirmed Monday that he sold the property to Reichenbach, who wrote in an email that he intends to open the area's lone Chevrolet dealership in southern Beaufort County.
"I think it's going to be good for the economy to have another business out here," Welch said. "I don't look at it as competition. ... I'll be glad when they get it built, because I think it will bring more business to the area" and help promote auto sales.

Details of the land sale, including its purchase price, were not available Monday. The Jasper County Assessor's Office said it was awaiting receipt of the deed.
Reichenbach owns and operates Mike Reichenbach Ford Lincoln in Florence.
"We are very excited and feel blessed to have this opportunity to bring the Chevrolet brand back to the Bluffton, Hilton Head, Hardeeville and surrounding area," his email said.
Modern Classic Motors sold Saab and Chevy vehicles on Hilton Head Island but closed the location last year after moving its Honda and Mercedes-Benz dealerships to Bluffton, joining a growing number of dealerships on the highway between Bluffton and Hardeeville.
Reichenbach said the new dealership will sell a full line of new Chevrolets, all makes and models of pre-owned cars and trucks, and will feature "a fully equipped, state-of-the-art service and parts department."
He said he plans to begin construction soon at the southwest corner of U.S. 278 and University Park and hopes to open the dealership by fall 2013.
Attempts Monday to reach representatives of Vaden Automotive Group of Beaufort, which sells Buick, GMC and Chevrolet vehicles, were unsuccessful.
