3 face federal charges in 39 robberies

Three men were arraigned in federal court Tuesday for their role in 39 armed robberies of check-cashing businesses and Asian restaurants, including one in Burton.

Raynard Montel Eady, 29, of North Charleston; Christopher Donnell Simmons, 33, of Wadmalaw; and Winard Montez Eady, 29, of North Charleston were charged with criminal conspiracy and weapons charges in connection with the robberies, which occurred between July 2009 and March 2011, according to a news release.

The men targeted Asian restaurants, check-cashing and loan businesses near Charleston but also robbed businesses in Walterboro, Holly Hill and Georgetown, the release said.

They also are accused of robbing the China Wok restaurant on Shanklin Road in Burton on September 2010, authorities said.
