Bluffton woman robbed while checking mail

A Bluffton woman said she was assaulted and robbed Monday morning while checking the mail in front of her home on Castle Point Road, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The woman said she was at her mailbox when a vehicle drove up and a man jumped out and assaulted her, claiming she owed him money, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh. The suspect removed $15 in cash from her pockets and drove away.

The woman had minor injuries and declined EMS treatment, McIntosh said.

She told deputies she may know her attacker and that his name may be "Slim." The suspect is described as black male, 23 to 26 years old, about 5-foot-8, 130 pounds, with a scratch on his chin.
