Two men on their way to dinner at a restaurant in the Coligny area on Hilton Head Island Thursday night were assaulted, causing a brawl involving at least eight people, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Three men have been charged in connection with the incident.
According to crime reports, a father and son were walking to dinner at about 7 p.m. when they were heckled by four men. One of the hecklers ran after them, and the father said he felt threatened and kicked the man in the chest, causing him to fall down a flight of stairs, the report said.
A fight broke out between three of the hecklers and the father and son, the report said. Several onlookers who tried to break up the fight were assaulted when they intervened, the report said. The fight broke up when deputies arrived.
Three men -- ages 19, 22 and 23 -- were each charged with misdemeanor assault and battery. Two of the attackers were from Hilton Head and one was from Columbia. One of the Hilton Head men was also charged with fleeing to evade arrest and disorderly conduct.
