Beaufort police: Woman robbed at ATM

Beaufort police are looking for two men who witnesses say robbed a woman Tuesday night as she withdrew cash from an ATM.

The woman told investigators that she drove up to an ATM at Cross Creek Shopping Center at about 10 p.m., and as the cash was being dispensed, a black man wearing a green bandana over his face and holding a small pistol demanded money, Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said.

The man snatched both the cash from the machine and the woman's cellphone and dashed toward a car waiting nearby, Clancy said.

The woman was not injured.

The suspect was described as being of average height and thin build, according to investigators. He was last seen wearing a gray knit cap and a baggy, red long-sleeved shirt.

A second suspect was seen standing behind the car during the robbery, but witnesses were unable to provide a detailed description, Clancy said.

Clancy said both men were seen leaving the scene in a dark-colored four-door sedan, possibly a Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Beaufort Police Department or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
