Proposals to grant the Beaufort County School District fiscal autonomy will be discussed at a Leadership Beaufort Alumni Association forum Feb. 28.
The county Board of Education currently submits a budget to the County Council for approval, a process that has led to debate and legal questions about the extent of the council's authority, an alumni association news release said.
Panelists will include Phyllis White of the school district, school board Chairman Fred Washington and County Councilman Brian Flewelling. They will explain how the current system works and proposals to change it, the release said.
The forum begins at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Beaufort on Boundary Street; a social period precedes it at 5:30 p.m.
