Sgt. Richard Fanger, who joined the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office in 1989, is retiring but not completely, he announced Monday.
Fanger said he still plans to volunteer for the county's Drug Court.
Fanger served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was deployed many times before joining the Sheriff's Office, according to a news release. He served as a drill instructor on Parris Island and retired from the Corps as a master sergeant.
During 22 years at the Sheriff's Office, Fanger held a variety of jobs, including road patrol, warrants and, finally, courthouse security.
