A man was cited for improperly caring for his dogs after a pit bull was reported running loose on Newcastle Street in Beaufort, according to police Chief Matt Clancy.
Police found the dog in the owner's yard Friday, according to the incident report. The owner was cited for not having a rabies tag on the pit bull, a misdemeanor.
A puppy, which appeared to also be a pit bull, was discovered in a plastic tub lined with a sheet. The puppy had no water or food, and it appeared it had been there for about five hours, Clancy said.
Beaufort County Animal Control responded, as well, Clancy said.
It's not clear if the dogs were taken to the county shelter. Animal control officers declined comment Monday, and an employee of the county attorney's office could find no record indicating the dogs were impounded.
