A man was injured early Sunday when shots were fired during an argument outside the IHOP restaurant on Robert Smalls Parkway in Beaufort.
A restaurant employee called police at about 4 a.m. to report that a group of 10 to 15 men were arguing in the parking lot before someone fired a shot, Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said.
Officers arrived to find several cars leaving. They pulled over one vehicle that was traveling at a high speed, Clancy said.
The passenger, a 33-year-old man, told officers he had been shot in the leg and was on his way to Beaufort Memorial Hospital. He told investigators he had just gotten out of his car to go into the restaurant when he heard the shot and felt something hit his leg.
