United Way of the Lowcountry Inc. reported Thursday it has raised $1,121,881 -- 40.1 percent of its annual campaign goal.
The agency lists a variety of ways local donations to United Way help the community:
A $100 donation secures a four-hour session every week in a social day program at Alzheimer's Family Services for those who care for people suffering from the disease.
A $100 donation provides 34 hours of educational instruction to students 14 to 17 years old at risk of dropping out of school.
A $500 donation protects public health through a partnership with Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health Services to install septic systems.
A $50 donation allows Bluffton Self Help to help a needy family with a utility bill.
