A man found in a burning car late Thursday on St. Helena Island still has not been identified, according to Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators, who say they have not yet received autopsy results.
Deputies responded at about 11:30 p.m. to reports of a white Buick Regal engulfed in flames off Folly Road, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Inside the vehicle was the burned body of a man who also appeared to have been shot, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.
The death likely was the second murder on the rural sea island in as many days, and the cases could be linked, McIntosh said.

The body was sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to determine identity and cause of death, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Results are expected Tuesday, McIntosh said.
