A new ordinance for unincorporated Beaufort County prohibits the burning of yard trimmings and other vegetation within 75 feet of a structure or road.
The ordinance, approved last month by County Council, also says fires can only be started between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The ordinance will be enforced by local fire departments, according to a Bluffton Township Fire District news release. Violators can be charged with a misdemeanor, the release said.
