Amateur golfers chasing another Honors Cup title

From staff reports

Hilton Head Island-area amateur golfers have won only four titles in the 25 years the Honors Cup has been contested, but they can make it four in a row if they can top their professional counterparts in the annual match play event today at Moss Creek Golf Club.

The amateurs have won the cup three straight years after the pros won the previous 21 years. They'll need nine points today to retain the cup, while the professionals will need 9 1/2 points to reclaim it.

The teams will square off in six four-ball matches starting at 8 a.m. and pair up for 12 singles matches in the afternoon.

The event is open to the public and admission is free.

Today, at Moss Creek Golf Club; Professionals listed first.
