Visiting dancer stabbed at Waffle House; suspect charged

A Los Angeles man expects to recover after he was stabbed early Sunday during a dispute in the parking lot of the Waffle House restaurant in Beaufort.

Police say Chris Moss, 31, was stabbed by Robert Darnell Bradham, 26, during a brawl at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday outside the restaurant at 2344 Boundary St.

Moss, who was visiting over the weekend to teach at the Beaufort Academy of Dance, said he was at the Waffle House for breakfast with friends when a group of men began to "hassle" some of the women in his party.

When some of his male friends began arguing with the men outside the restaurant, he went outside to help break up the fight, Moss said Sunday from Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he was recuperating.

That's when another man rushed toward him.

"I thought he was going to tackle me," Moss said. "He ran at me, and when he pulled away, I saw that I had been stabbed."

Witnesses described the suspect, later identified as Bradham, and the vehicle he was driving to officers. A Beaufort County sheriff's deputy saw the vehicle a few minutes later, according to a Beaufort police news release.

Bradham faces felony first-degree assault-and-battery charges. Early Monday, he was in the county detention center awaiting a bond hearing, according to the jail log.

Moss, who was supposed to return to California on Sunday night, said doctors expect him to recover from the wound, but he's not sure how long he will remain in the hospital.

Aleisia Ashlaw, director of the Beaufort Academy of Dance and a friend of the dancer, said Monday that Moss received 23 staples in his abdomen, and his condition continues to improve. She said Moss, an expert in hip-hop dance, has visited the studio at least four times in the past few years.

The incident won't keep him away, Ashlaw said.

"He said he comes here because he loves the studio and he loves Beaufort," she said.

The dancer, teacher and choreographer has performed with such artists as Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Donna Summer, Jennifer Lopez and LeAnn Rimes. He has also appeared on TV series and award shows such as "The Parkers," "Third Rock From the Sun," "The MTV Video Music Awards," "The Miss America Pageant," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," and the Emmy awards, according to the website of Tremaine Dance, where Moss has taught classes.
