Morning crashes snarl traffic

Burton firefighters responded to two crashes Friday morning that snarled traffic, said Dan Byrne, district spokesman.

The first occurred at about 7 a.m. on Robert Smalls Parkway when two passenger vehicles collided with a cement truck, Byrne said.

No injuries were reported, but both southbound lanes of Robert Smalls Parkway were blocked while firefighters washed fuel off the road.

The second crash was at about 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Parris Island Gateway and County Shed Road and involved two cars, Byrne said.

Byrne said one driver had to be cut free from the car; she had only minor injuries.

Traffic on Parris Island Gateway was blocked for about 30 minutes.
