Starting today, readers of The Island Packet/The Beaufort Gazette can get an earlier look at what's going on each weekend with the launch of Lowcountry Current.
Like the weekly entertainment section that preceded it -- the Guide -- Lowcountry Current will keep you posted on where local bands are playing, area nightlife, festivals and what's showing at the movies and on stage.
It also will include some new columns, such as Keeping Time, which will profile local musicians, and Currently Playing, which will offer suggestions for your Spotify and iTunes playlists, based on different themes each week.

The biggest change, though, will be the day you get the section. It will be in your newspaper on Thursdays instead of Fridays, and we hope this gives you a jump on making plans for the weekend. Current also will change formats, becoming a standard-size broadsheet section, rather than the smaller tabloid.
Everything in Lowcountry Current, of course, also will be available online, at islandpacket.com/lowcountrycurrent.
To allow for these changes, we've found another home for some of the material that has appeared in the Thursday Duty & Honor section. The military affairs column by Tom Philpott will appear in the A section on Mondays, along with news notes on local military people.
We hope you enjoy Lowcountry Current and find its content useful.
