A fiber line cut during road construction in Colleton County caused service problems Sunday for AT&T cellphone users in northern Beaufort County.
The problem was first reported and identified at about 11 a.m., and a repair team was dispatched to the construction site, about two miles south of Jacksonboro on U.S. 17, AT&T spokeswoman Ann Elsas said. The fiber was fixed by 5:30 p.m.
The damage disrupted service in areas including the city of Beaufort, town of Port Royal and Burton. Several towers along Interstate 95 and U.S. 21 also were not working properly, AT&T spokesman Josh Gelinas said Sunday.
The problem was confined to cellphones and did not affect home service.
