At Cordray's Venison Processing in Ravenel, hunters brought in 14 alligators during the weekend. Several weighed more than 500 pounds. The longest was 11 feet 9 inches, and the heaviest was 636 pounds, according to Claudia Cordray.
Taylor Outdoors, a Midlands-based gator hunting guide service, helped clients get two gators during the weekend, one 8 feet 6 inches long and one 9 feet long.
South Carolina has staged a four-week gator-hunting season since 2008. Several thousand hunters enter a drawing for the 1,200 gator tags each year.
