A 45-year-old Hilton Head Island man faces burglary charges in connection with two break-ins early Thursday at public schools on the island's north end, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.
Charles Leroy Walley was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and one count of petty theft after deputies found him at Hilton Head Middle School at 55 Wilborn Road after an alarm went off, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Earlier in the morning, deputies responded to Hilton Head High School at 70 Wilborn Road after an alarm was activated there at about 3:30 a.m. Deputies found the building unlocked but no one inside, nor was there any sign of forced entry or theft, the Sheriff's Office said.
Less than an hour later, an alarm at the middle school went off.

As deputies searched the area, they saw a black male, later identified as Walley, inside the building. He then fled through a window and was found lying in bushes outside the building, the release said.
Deputies found Walley with several small electronics missing from the middle school. He was arrested and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center. He was awaiting a bond hearing Thursday, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Nothing was reported stolen from the high school and neither school appeared to be damaged, the release said.
