Hilton Head woman robbed Tuesday at Shelter Cove

A 33-year-old Hilton Head Island woman was robbed Tuesday by a man in a parking lot at the Plaza at Shelter Cove, according to Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh.

The woman told deputies she was leaving a store at the plaza at about 12:15 p.m. when a man approached her and asked for a ride to a bank. The woman agreed and drove him to a nearby bank, McIntosh said.

When the two arrived back at the plaza parking lot, the man demanded she hand over her cash. She gave him about $300, and he ran away. The woman did not report any injuries, McIntosh said.

The robber was described as a black male between 50 and 60 years old, 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds. He was wearing a blue, Hawaiian-floral print shirt and shorts, McIntosh said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Beaufort County non-emergency dispatch number at 843-524-2777.
