Beaufort County was named South Carolina's 2010 most supportive county of people with disabilities, according to a state agency.
The S.C. Department of Disabilities and Special Needs has given County Council its Golden Palmetto award, which has been presented to one county annually for 36 years, according to a news release.
Beaufort County was recognized, in part, for its financial commitment to disability services and for spending $6.4 million to construct a building for the county's Disabilities and Special Needs department, the release said.
